The Executive Committee

The Chamber is headed by an Executive Committee of twelve, chaired by the President, with two Vice Chairmen. Officers include the honorarium-paid Secretary and the Treasurer. All are elected at the Chamber’s AGM every February. Executive Committee members each have various delegated responsibilities. Committee meetings are held at which correspondence is dealt with, applications for membership considered and future planning made. Decisions from Executive Committee meetings are relayed to members through the Chamber’s Newsletter, published about every two months.

    Weymouth Town Centre Group
The Chairman of this group is a member of the Executive Committee, who chairs monthly daytime meetings. The Group works under the umbrella of the Chamber. Attendees need not be members of the Chamber but, if desired, they can feed into the Chamber as required. The Group is well placed for all issues relating to Town Centre activity: They consider retail and leisure development, initiating promotional activity to generate new business for businesses! Interest in all aspects of Town Centre safety and security bring close relationships with Dorset Police, CCTV surveillance, RadioLink and PubWatch. General day & night economy and behavioural issues are all part of Weymouth Town Centre Group’s responsibilities.

Breakfast Meetings
Currently sponsored by Lloyds TSB Bank, the monthly Breakfast Meetings are held informally at The Rendezvous in Weymouth. Centrally-situated, this venue suits Town Centre businesspeople well and also attracts many from outer areas.

Campaigns
From time-to-time we mount campaigns. including stressing the urgency of the Weymouth Relief Road, the redevelopment of the Pavilion & Ferry Terminal site and the 2012 Games.

Day-to-Day
The Secretary is the main port of call, working closely with the President, Town Centre Group Chairman and the Executive committee. The Secretary uses all forms of contact, snail-mail and email included!

  Members meetings
On average six Business meetings each year are held, with a minimum of two on Portland. These meetings are designed to be purposeful, usually with a guest speaker on a topical issue. Relevant matters discussed by the Executive Committee are relayed briefly.
