Weymouth BID Limited held a Levy Payer Annual Meeting on Thursday 26TH January 2017 at the Ocean Room Weymouth Pavilion. The meeting was attended by 30 businesses who heard about last year’s projects as well as future plans for the BID including the 2018 Renewal Campaign.
The meeting informed Levy Payers of the progress that Weymouth BID has made in 2016 and some of the projects and events in the pipeline for 2017.
Nigel Reed, BID Manager, made the point that the BID would continue to support the BID’s established events and ongoing marketing campaigns that promote the area but now the focus is on the delivery of other aspects in the current business plan.
2017 projects include the potential of WiFi in the town and the added benefits of the system for footfall data capture and potential interactive signage. Improvements to commercial waste disposal for businesses through bulk contracts and better recycling options and potential savings in costs.
Reference was made to the increasing Cruise Ship Market with over 36,000 passengers due into Portland Port in 2017 of which over 15,000 are likely to spend time in Weymouth & Portland. The BID Weyfarer volunteers will continue to welcome passengers as they arrive in the town providing information and maps.
BID Manager Nigel Reed also made reference to 2017 being the start of the renewal process for a new business plan to be balloted for in May 2018. Mr Reed said “This process starts now to enable the business consultation to create a new plan and meet the regulation deadlines for the Ballot. This is a real opportunity for businesses to be involved in creating a new plan and we are keen for people to come forward and help all businesses to engage.”
A further Levy Payer Meeting is planned for March 17 where feedback on the 2016 BIG Christmas Campaign will be presented as well as an opportunity to discuss the accounts from Year 3 (available on the Weymouth BID website). The agenda will also include more details on the renewal and business engagement.
Steve Newstead the Chair of Weymouth BID made reference to the Board wanting new directors from amongst Levy Payers to ensure that a good cross section of business sectors are represented, in particular representation from independent retail businesses and the service sector.
