The Show WILL Go On!
Made to Measure Productions and Weymouth Pavilion (WPCC members) are delighted to announce a new partnership with Weymouth’s
premiere Heritage Attraction – The Nothe Fort (WPCC members) – allowing their record-breaking summer pantomime ‘Pirates of the Pavilion’ to
return to the town for it’s 7th swashbuckling (socially distanced!) season!
With theatres and other performance venues around the country facing prolonged closure due to the impacts of the COVID-19
pandemic, this new association will see the potty pirates embarking on a brand new adventure, specifically written for the
unique performance space within The Nothe Fort, ensuring that locals and tourists alike can enjoy some top class family
entertainment just when they need it most!
To ensure government guidelines are adhered to, the audience will watch the show from socially-distanced seats, allowing
family groups to sit together whilst maintaining a safe distance from other audience members, and hand sanitiser stations will
be positioned around the fort. Booking will be via the Weymouth Pavilion website and digital or print-at-home tickets will be
scanned on arrival, before audience members are shown to their seats by Nothe Fort and Weymouth Pavilion staff and
volunteers. Further details on the safe operation of the event can be found on the Made to Measure website.
This year’s unique production will feature many of your favourite Pirates of the Pavilion cast members, along with some
surprise special guests! The hilarious LIAM MELLOR returns for his fourth summer season in the role of Seadog Billy – expect
side-splitting comedy antics and laughter by the bucketful…anything can happen…and it probably will!
ROBERT SQUIRE returns for his 6th year as the bumbling Captain Filibuster, along with Pirates of the Pavilion regulars TEGEN
JONES (Spirit of the Seas), ISLA ROSE (Pirate Poppy) and Weymouth’s Own ALEX ROGAN as Dapper Dick!
Pirates of the Pavilion is brought to you by the same team behind Weymouth’s hugely popular Christmas Pantomimes, and we
are delighted to announce that panto favourite GWYNFRYN WEST will make his Pirates of the Pavilion debut as the evil
CAPTAIN BLACKHEAD who is set on stealing the loot from our plucky pirate crew! Gwynfryn has played various roles in
Weymouth’s Christmas productions over the last 5 years – including Buttons in Cinderella, Idle Jack in Dick Whittington and
Muddles in Sleeping Beauty – so we are delighted that he will be joining us aboard the Saucy Sally in Pirates of the Pavilion
this summer, and we can’t wait to see his evil side…! The crew will also be joined for the first time by Captain Filibuster’s longsuffering
wife MRS FILIBUSTER – this is the first time that a traditional ‘dame’ has made an appearance in Pirates of the
Pavilion, and she will be played by the fabulous LUKE ATTWOOD, who beady-eyed panto fans will recognise as one of the
Ugly Sisters from last year’s production of CINDERELLA!
Lee Redwood, Writer and Director of the show said:
“In a period of much uncertainty for theatrical and arts organisations around the world, it’s wonderful to know that creative
innovation and collaboration have allowed us to bring our unique summer pantomime back to Weymouth for yet another
summer season! Many theatres around the country are in an impossible position due to the pandemic, and in order to survive
we have to think outside-the-box. In this instance, we have been able to think ‘outside-the-theatre’ and are delighted to be
working alongside Weymouth Pavilion and The Nothe Fort on this very exciting project, which will not only be supporting
two hugely popular local leisure businesses, but also offer the general public the entertainment that they have been craving –
you can’t get this on Netflix!”
James Farquharson, Chair of Nothe Fort said:
“Pirates of the Pavilion is a much-loved feature of sunny summer holidays in Weymouth. The Nothe Fort team are so pleased
to be able to help this family fun continue. The Fort’s parade ground is a fantastic space for community events, as last year’s
Museum of the Moon proved, and we will be able to offer a wide range of cover-safe features.”
We have seen HUGE demand for tickets since going on sale last Thursday, proving that locals are craving some entertainment,
whilst safely socially distant, in these unprecedented times!
The performance itself will last for one hour without an interval, but the audience will be able to join in the fun from an hour
before the show even begins with interactive warm-ups, a pirate quiz and the chance to learn how to become a Pavilion Pirate
themselves!
“Pirates of the Pavilion – Live at Nothe Fort!” will be performed twice daily from 17th-23rd August at 4:30pm & 7:30pm each
day. Audiences can gain access to the fort from one hour prior to the performance with an interactive warm-up taking place
from 30 minutes prior to show time. Tickets cost just £15.00 each and are available NOW online at
www.weymouthpavilion.com
So come on down to The Nothe Fort this summer and experience Pirates of the Pavilion as you’ve never seen it before!
