MP Richard Drax in town for businesses

President Craig with Weymouth BID has taken our MP The Right Honourable Richard Drax around Weymouth to talk with some business owners and members of the public and he wanted to pass on a message to the businesses in our area.

Part of it gives an official piece of news which has just recently become clear from Boris Johnson’s Statement given in Parliament today about 1 metre distancing.

From a business point of few certainly locally, the announcements that have come out of the capital have been welcomed by many.

It will mean that a whole raft of hospitality venues and the hairdressing industry can begin to make solid plans. Unfortunately for some sectors and businesses there is still a waiting game. This is certainly a step in the right direction to get the wheels of our economy turning again though.

Our local Member of Parliament Richard Drax spent time with our President and Claudia Webb Chief Officer of Weymouth BID today.

Richard talked with Local Florist Fiona Penny from Fiona Penny at Sunflowers. Fulvio Figliolini of Rossi’s Ice Cream, Weymouth which has been trading for 84 years & the ladies In our antistress shoe shop Rieker. We all need to destress sometimes. Who knew footwear was the key?

Then Richard went on to talk to a couple of civilian security officers who were patrolling the town.

Finally we all had a good look around Weymouth’s picturesque harbour one of the many Jewels in our Crown. We talked there to cafe owner Keith Rupp of Custom House Cafe Weymouth

Richard’s message is that every life lost is a tragedy but he really hopes we get things going again and Weymouth & Portland will be able to see great prosperity and employment in the future in spite of this crisis.
