Video Competition Winners

Weymouth & Portland Chamber of Commerce & We are Weymouth came up with a competition to find a film that captured the essence and passion of Weymouth and Portland.

Videos done correctly have always been a great way to capture the imagination of many in one hit. We are now proud to announce the final winner who wins £500 to spend in local businesses. This video is a  fantastic example of what Weymouth and Portland is all about!

Andrew Prendergast wrote, directed and edited.  He has made a few local videos having moved here nearly six years ago from London. Music was recorded specially and the guitar was an original improvised piece by Big Al Whittle who is from Boston, Lincs but has been a local musician for years.

Chris and Tess Reid played the Concertinas on a Dorset 4 hand Reel, a traditional tune – They are regulars at the Sailor’s Return Wednesday Folk Night. Narration/Rubi’s voice was by Lenny Deeble, who like Rubi, is Weymouth born and bred. Lenny’s Grandmother, Angie Briggs is also from Weymouth and lent and wrangled Rubi as well as helping with the filming.

Craig Oakes, President of the Weymouth and Portland Chamber of Commerce said “We were extremely excited to watch all the videos presented which celebrate our area. Ever since we have been at the mercy of the dreaded Coronavirus, we have realised that there needs to be something that could help to rebuild what is becoming more and more fragile every day once we come out the other side. The economy and local businesses in this area do not just equate to money but will touch almost everyone’s lives in some way shape or form and is more about communities and families.”

Claudia Webb, COO of Weymouth BID said “Andrew’s video was 100% the winning entry in my eyes – Apart from the fact that I haven’t laughed so much in ages, it was informative and showed off many of our assets in a light-hearted and welcoming way. It is our hope that the video will attract more visitors – not just dog owners  – to the area, even in the chillier months, which will in turn benefit our local economy.”

Many congratulations to the winner and huge thanks to everyone who participated! Thanks must also go to Blackgate Loft Image Studios and Bespoke Leisure Solutions for all their help and time making the promo video and poster.
